Phytoremediation

Considerable interest in plant metal accumulation has been evoked by the concept of phytoremediation. Based on the well-documented observation that several plant species not only tolerate otherwise toxic levels of certain metals in the soil but even hyperaccumulate them in their shoots, the use of this trait as a means of cleaning up metal-contaminated soil and water has been proposed.
